Mt Kuju in July

A different route to our favorite place in Kyushu took us through the mountains between Fukuoka and Saga. We stopped at Kanzaki for a small walk and to look at the sights.

Japanese Kanoko Lily, (Kanokoyuri)

Next came our look out point, a place we visit for sunrise views, but this time it was noon.
Dianthus, (Kawaranadeshiko)

Japanese yellow blister beetles, Kiirogensei, キイロゲンセイ better not touch these.

2 Different Skippers:  The Japanese Dart, (Kimadaraseseri)

... and Silver-spotted Skipper, (Hosobaseseri)

A kind of Emerald Moth, maybe (Himeusu Aoshaku)

Some hairy caterpillars

I looked them up on the internet, but the only image I found was on a site for insecticides :-( !

Japenese Banded Darter, (Miyama Akane)

The red male

Seemingly suspended in air, hundreds little bugs that look like tiny baby spiders

The Dryad, (Janomechou)

By the time we got to our camping spot the afternoon was turning into evening. We walked around the marsh. Always a lot to see here.

Higotai, ヒゴタイ had started to turn purple

Kusaredama,

Shimokkesou,

Several Morning Star Lilies, (Himeyuri) ヒメユリ popped up in the greenery

The Japanese Ligularai, (Hankaisou) ハンカイソウ were flowering, but they only look good from a distance

But sometimes close-ups are ok.  No Name Moth

Same with the Japanese Water Iris, Nohanashoubu

And another No Name Moth

A High Brown Fritillaru, (Uraginhyoumon)
visiting the Gooseneck Loosestrife, (Okatoranoo),

The Dryad, (Janomechou)

That No Name Moth again

Short-horned Grasshopper subspecies with long wings,

Citron Day-lily, (Yuusuge)

Chinese Peacock, (Karasu Ageha) カラスアゲハ  on Japanese Ligularia, or Chinese Dragon, (Hankaisou) ハンカイソウ. You wonder what country we're in...

The next day on the hiked to Bogatsuru

    Momijigasa,

The forest was dark. Nice and shady in the summer. A single bright white Lily halfway.

Then, on the trunk of a fallen tree there were these regular fungi and many red worms. Mostly under the fungus. What are they? Caterpillars?

Scarce Tortoiseshell, (Hiodoshichou)

Japanese Water Iris, (Nohanashoubu)

Otogirisou,

And there I got a glimpse of the Great Purple Emperor, (Oomurasaki)
 My first!

We crossed the river and headed back on the other side. The growth was quite different here, the insects too.   Hyoumon Edashaku,

Gold!

Look at this tree and the size of the fungi. (And our drink bottle and calorimates on the lower shelf)

Fallen out of the canopy, a pretty green caterpillar with no hair. Could I have touched it?

The very last bit of Mountain Hydrangea, (Yama ajisai)
